Q:  Q: Hi Peggy! As Ronnie Dapo played such a vicious brat on 'The Andy Griffith Show' episode 'Opie and the Spoiled Kid' (2/18/1963-the same month and year that 'Class Reunion' aired), what was he like in real life during 'Room For One More?' Was he well behaved?
A:  Dear Brian, Ronnie was a doll! He was very smart and lively. I took all the kids on the show to see the great mime, Marcel Marceau in the theatre. Little Ronnie sat on my lap, and he understood every thing Marceau did! If you know where he is , please let me know. I really loved that show and every one on it
I'm so glad you wrote to me about it. Cordially, Peggy McCay

Q:  Peggy..Just wanted to say hi & again thank you sooo much for having myself and my family as guests@ your fan club breakfast over the Days wknd. We had a wonderful time. I am embarrassed for being so long winded when it was my turn to share and also what I said came out all wrong and I didn't get to really say what I had wanted to say. I hope you understand. Anyway, it was so nice to see so many that came out in support of you. You might have to have that whole back room in the cafe reserved next year!!! It was so nice of your longtime friend to stop by & share his good news with you and all of us too. So happy for him. Well, in regards to Days I must say that i'm very disappointed that we haven't been seeing very much of "Caroline" until these past few days. I have been writing to your bosses as well as the writers. I must appologize that I didn't get any letters sent in the first few weeks after returning from the trip, but i'm back on track now. Hang in there--- i'm trying and I hope your other fans are writing too, esp your fan club members. Your scenes are wonderful as always and remind me so much of my own family and my grandmother. Thank you sooo much for all your hard work. I hope eventulally we will get to see "Caroline" & "Victor's" story played out onscreen. Before I go I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for complementing me on my writing and suggestion that I should become a writer. That really meant so much. I was not expecting to hear that. My aunt was so touched. You truly are a very kind, giving, and gracious woman. Take care of yourself and i'll talk to you soon in my next letter. Please say hi to Victor, Peggy, & Ceil. They did such a wonderful job helping with things. See you next year. Dama
A:  Dear Dama, I'm so glad you and your aunt had a good time at the Breakfast. I think the fans in my club are vey sweet and good people and I am pleased they care about me.
I appreciate your writing on my behalf. It is very important. The producers listen to the viewers. Thank you for taking the time to do that.Take care -love to your aunt. Cordially, Peggy McCay

Jul 09 2008
Q:  Hi Peggy, Sorry I hit enter too soon. As you, I am also an animal lover. My question to you is I thought I at one time read that your real life husband once had a role on Days. Is this correct or I'm I just imagining things?? Also am wondering will Victor and Caroline get together sometime soon??
A:  Dear Sadie, ( my Mother's sister was called Sadie)
In real life, I am single.I have playd many wives and mothers. On a sit-com series I starred in "Room for One More" one of the children's mother told me that 10 year old Carol liked me better than her.
I explained that it was because all we did all day was play-act and have fun, but, when it came to breakfast and home -work and driving her mother, her did all that. Carol said "That's true.'
I said, "you've got two mothers-a real one and a pretend one. That's pretty good."
Acting and a career is what I've wanted. It's important that a person does what they love. Thank you for wring to me. Cordially. Peggy McCay

Apr 02 2008
Q:  Dear Peggy,
I've noticed that characters refer to you as both "Caroline" and "Carolyn." This is a pet peeve of mine as the character's name is spelled Caroline. Have you noticed this? Is this a joke on the set?
A:  Dear Shauntel,
Thank you for your pet peeve. It's mine too. The right way to pronounce Caroline is that the "...line" would rhyme with fin (like a fish's fin). The wrong way is line - as in rhyming with sign. However, people on the show have sometimes pronounced it incorrectly. What can you do?

Thank you. Maybe we can both set it straight. Write in anytime. I love it.

Cordially,
Peggy McCay
Question from:
philippe Lombard

Apr 02 2008
Q:  Dear Mrs McCay,
I am a French journalist and I am working on a series of articles about “Highway to Heaven”. Would you accept to tell me your recollections about the episode you made in this series ? Have you enjoyed to play in it ? How was Michael Landon ?
It would be very kind of you.
I thank you very much.
Best Regards,
A:  Dear Mr. Lombard,

I am very glad to know you are writing about "Highway to Heaven". The episode in which I appeared was titled "One Winged Angel".

I worked with Michael Landon as an actor on Bonanza. Now he was producer, director and actor on "Highway". He was remarkable as all three.

He asked me if the scene we just shot was to my liking...I was stunned. If I wanted to do it again, he would have done so -- most unusual and considerate. He and his family stayed at the same motel on location as the cast and crew. He had a woman as a director of photography -- a breakthrough choice at that time. I told him, that I thought he was just "acting" the part of an angel, that I didn't know he actually was one.

Of all the people I've worked with in my life. He is without a doubt the best, the kindest, the brightest -- and the funniest.

Would you be so kind as to send me a copy of the articles you are writing about "Highway". I'd be interested in reading them.

Cordially,
Peggy McCay

Q:  Peggy, I want to compliment your wonderful acting and the great performance on Days on 2/15/08. When Caroline had tears coming down her cheek, I started to cry. I could feel her pain. You are a gifted actress and I think you deserve another emmy for all of your great scenes on Days. Hope to see lots more of you. Love you, Denise
A:  Dear Denise, Thank you for you wonderful letter about my performance on Feb. 15.I am glad to know you were moved .I try hard to make the scenes as real as I can-that is my goal. If you felt sad and had tears for the scene , I feel I have succeeded. It means so much to me to know that. Thank you for watching and especially for taking the time to write to me.

Question from:
Dennis Greene

Q:  Peggy,
The episode "Class Reunion" that you played in on the Andy Griffith show has always had me wondering about you. Only you can solve this mystery for me. In this show you look so much like Betty Lynn "Thelma Lou", that I thought you were her. Question is: Are you and Betty Lynn, kin at all. Thanks for your time.
Dennis Greene
A:  Dear Dennis
I appeared on one episode of Andy Griffith as "SHaron DeSpain" ,Andy's former girlfriend. The episode was""Reunion" Years ago, here was there an amazing resemblance between myself and Betty Lynn, We both worked on CBS ,on different shows. Sometimes our fan mail got mixed up. One day, when I was working,I was in the ladies room, washing my hands ,I looked in the mirror and was amazed to see what llooked like a twin-. Both of us were amazed by the resemblance. Thank you for inquiring about it. It doesn't happen anymore. I used to run into Betty Lynn and we would always joke about our sister act. Unfortunately, I have not seen her for a long time. I hope she is busy and happy and well. Thank you for inquiring.

Q:  I remember you on a soap I watched as a youngster. I believe it was Love of Life and Christopher Reeves was also on it, I think as your nephew "Beanie" Am I correct.
A:  Dear Beverly,
I did indeed appear as Vanessa on "Love of Life". My nephew was called "Beanie" but he was not played by Christopher Reeves, but by a young fellow of 10 years, called Dennis Parnell. About five years ago, when I was a guest on a television talk show, I got a phone call from the actor who played my husband, and from Dennis. I arranged for us to have a reunion at the NBC commissary. It was a lovely event-- we were all very happy to see each other again.
Thanks for writing in. Good memories like these are truly wonderful. All the best to you, Peggy McCay
